Priceless

*Daniel’s pov* I tried and tried to find something worthwhile in Rose’s cabin. I didn’t find anything that seemed out of work. I don’t know if I could ever call her Aubrey. She will always be Rose for me. Rose. Delicate, gentle, and strong. I needed to know what secrets she was hiding that was troubling her. I would not think twice before taking all those horrible things away from her at any cost and hiding her safe from the entire world. She deserves calm and peace. She deserves everything. Just as I get searching the last cupboard, the shrill ring of my phone alerts me. My stomach twists when I see it’s Sophie calling. I had this weird feeling nagging at me that I pushed down not so long ago. “Is everything okay?” are the words that drop out of my mouth just as I answer the call. “Dan- Daniel, um,” she takes a breath in before continuing, “um, I think you should come here-” I end the call before she says anything more. This can’t be good. The familiar feeling of p

The sunray through the dark clouds

The next few days were a bit gloomy. Like the days when there isn’t rain but the dark clouds have covered the sun and the pretty blue sky has lost its colour. Daniel had taken a day off after getting the news, mostly because he had lost the energy for another day filled with human interactions.

At the end of the week, it was Vic’s funeral. Apparently when Vic’s contacts were tried to open his phone’s memory card got erased by itself, so no information was gathered from it. After a lot of convincing to Gerald about the funeral, Gerald had agreed for it to be sponsored by the office.

Daniel didn’t want to be present at the event where he had to publically admit that Vic was no longer present in the world he existed in. All the good times, such as when Vic gifted Daniel the brown cap, that Daniel actually never wore, from where he had visited, or the cake fights that happened every time they decided to go to have breakfast together (the cake was not included in the breakfast but they got one for them anyways) and many other things that made Daniel genuinely happy, were flowing in front of his eyes as he got ready in the black suit. Daniel always thought black as a colour cool people wore or the colour of sophistication but now it was just another gloomy colour that showed the depths of Daniel’s despair.

The funeral was beautiful apart from when Daniel got up on the stage to speak something about Vic, but suddenly all the words left him. He wanted to but he just couldn’t speak and it seemed as no sound could come out of his mouth. His vision got blurry holding back the little pool of tears forming in his eyes. His feet got stuck to the ground as if someone had glued him there and so he couldn’t move. It was until Rose came on the stage and move him out that he saw all the different people sitting there, all the people that he was sure he had never seen in his life before.

It was a gloomy day. It wasn’t so much when he saw the call pop up on his phone with Rose’s name on it. Daniel had left the funeral as soon as it was over so that he wouldn’t have to talk to anybody about it. He never liked the talk and he hated it even more when people started talking about him.

He was actually surprised when he got a smile on his face after reading Rose’s name. It was just surprising for him how his mood changed in a second. But he didn’t notice that instead of picking up the call he was just looking at her name and so had missed the call. ‘Wow, great job Daniel!’ he complimented sarcastically.

So he called her back and unlike him, she accepted the call at the second ring itself.

“Hello?” he heard her say in a gentle voice.
“Hey…” he said with a small smile, “sorry I missed your call.”
“Oh, it’s alright. Did I disturb you though?”
“No, no, no… You didn’t,” he said.
“Oh.” He could see her smiling from her phone, that beautiful smile that grew up around her cheeks and crinkled her eyes. And her dimple…

He was so busy thinking about her that he forgot he was still on the phone with her and was brought back when he heard her say his name through the phone.

“Oh, sorry… Please could you repeat what you just said?” he said with an embarrassed smile.
“ I was asking if you were free now.”
“Yeah, I am. Why?”
“Meet me at my house in half an hour, but don’t eat and come.”
“Okay?” he asked in a confused tone.
“Okay.”

After a while, he pulled over at Rose's house and saw her standing outside waiting for him. She wore a cute denim jumper and her hair were tied up in a ponytail. She saw him come over and sat in the car and said, "You know a new carnival has started nearby?"
"Yeah?"
"We are going there," she said with a gleaming smile pondering on her face.

She was the sunray that pushed across the dark clouds and brightened the situation. She was the magical sunray.

  3. These part contains both the opposite feelings together....there is a moment where Daniel is very sad...he is just not able to express his sadness...the loss...and on the other side he is gaining comfort from a very exceptional person whom he once thought arrogant. Rose's company make him forget everything. Rose is perfectly portrayed as a friend....she has very wisely grown her relationship with Daniel. She now knows her friends need too. Great lovely....👍
