The secret

 

Sometimes when you are not ready for it the most unexpected thing swoops up in your life. But not necessarily in a good or bad way, just very unusual.

Sophie had been sitting on the couch by Rose’s bed for the past two hours and working on her laptop for the new marketing scheme she had been trying to make.

Daniel had called her abruptly and had just said how he was going to Rose’s house. There had been no calls after it. Sophie just felt like she could give him his time. Daniel had been running back and forth from the hospital to his house where he’d just go for a shower or a change of clothes. He just felt like he couldn’t completely trust the hospital staff, which to be honest was bizarre, but no one said anything to him.

Just as she was thinking of going for a coffee, she heard the click of the door. In came Claire, the French niece of the CEO who had not visited when mostly everyone had.

Her manicured nails tapping incessantly on the door made Sophie groan and open the door for her. A pleasure, as always!

After keeping the bouquet at the corner of the room along with the few already kept, Claire sat on the couch where Sophie had been siting before. A few awkward moments passed and then Sophie said, “Uh, I’ll just go grab a cup of coffee in a minute if you don’t mind.”

Claire nodded and Sophie went out on her way thinking about the coffee when she remembered that she had forgotten her wallet. Just as she came near the door she heard a loud voice saying, “-so pathetic. I was finally going to get ze-” claire had stopped saying as she heard the knob turn.

Sophie went in and after grabbing her wallet, she turned towards Claire as she couldn’t help her curiosity and asked what that shouting was all about. Claire sheepishly tucked in the strands of her hair and showed that she was talking to someone through a Bluetooth device. That didn’t seem pretty accurate to Sophie because if that had been the case why wouldn’t she go out and talk on the call like a normal person? But she nodded and ignored her weirdness as she always did.

On the other side, the police had reached Rose’s house before Daniel had expected. He hid the pendrive in the pocket of his jacket before they came in.

The police had searched the entire area and they didn’t find anything suspicious. This seemed a little fishy, along with the fact that the main officer looked pretty familiar but Daniel couldn’t pinpoint from where.

Them thinking of this just as a usual breaking in was concerning Daniel. There was nothing stolen but the entire house was trashed as if whoever broke in was searching for something, everything seemed unusual in this but why were the police not worried about this?

They went to leave after asking several questions to Daniel. They didn't ask any questions to the neighbours. Daniel saw them leaving in two cars.

One of them had words ‘FBI’ engraved in a very small handwriting and then it dawned upon him that the chief officer was no one other than the lead FBI officer who came for the raid over the office.

This started to feel like there was something bigger than he was seeing, there was a bigger picture.

There was a bigger plot twist than he had anticipated.
