Author's note: Buckle up.
The one who has ever witnessed a storm would agree that the calm before the storm is actually scarier than the actual storm, of course, depending on the strength of it.
Rose pretended that
everything was perfectly fine the entire day which hurt Daniel more than the
sudden outburst the day before.
The next day he didn’t
hear from her.
It wouldn’t take a genius
to figure that she was hiding something that was wrong with her. What bothered
him the most was the sorry, why could she apologise?
It was perhaps one of
the mysteries she came along with. Daniel knew he was lucky just to be along with her, she rarely showed her real self to people. The girl with the cheeky
laughs, the dimpled smiles, and shy carnival excitement just was hidden behind the
confident and intelligent woman.
For some reason, Simon
wasn’t seen at the office the next day too. Maybe he too was tired from the
party, he was among the few who left it the last.
The entire day the one
nagging question about Rose was poking in his mind. So he decided to call her
and address the elephant in the room. He called her.
Once.
Twice. Thrice. The ring kept ringing but the voice he
wanted to hear never answered. She must’ve
fallen asleep, he thought, she won’t
just ignore me like that.
So he did the most
obvious thing that popped in his mind, he went over to her house the next morning.
He practised his question once (okay, probably way more than once but no one
has to know that) and giving himself some encouragement he rubbed his hands
over his thighs and went towards her door only to find it locked.
Locked?
It was just 8 in the
morning. He hoped for her to be there. Masking the hurt over his face he went
to work.
Just as he had parked
his car and was entering, a whirlwind of brown hair passed from next to him.
Rose.
He called out her name
just as she started crossing the street. The green eyes that had him mesmerised
from the start were welling up with tears. She was trying so hard not to cry.
Daniel’s eyebrows frowned looking at her. What was even happening?
She looked at him and
gave an apologetic smile. It was a hurtful smile and a shrug of the shoulder like
she did something that she didn’t have a choice.
She reminded him of the
time when he stole his father’s black car because his friends had planned a
trip and his car was at the mechanic’s.
Wrong
timing, Dan.
His thoughts were
interrupted when he heard Simon next to him whisper, “Always loved those eyes.”
Always?
Was
there something that he was missing? Didn’t he introduce Rose to Simon just a
few days ago?
Just as he could go
towards Rose, he saw her tilt her head to a side and give him another beautiful
smile. Gosh, how beautiful she can look
even with tears filled in her eyes, he thought as he started walking towards
her.
And then it happened.
The face that he had
grown to see from cold to warm swooped off across the road in front of him. It all
happened so sudden that he didn’t get time to process what actually had
happened.
Then all he saw was
blood…
--------
Yes, some vehicle collided with Rose and the blood that Daniel is seeing is hers.
Too many questions for this chapter but which ones are you focusing on?

DeleteYou are back with twists and turns and surprises.... Just when the reader starts thinking about a story ahead, here you go with another turn...good that's the quality of writer to make reader swirl around the main concept....well I am more concerned about Daniel thoughts towards Simon's reaction... I feel these accident shall become a root to a major disclosure of the ROSE'S PAST. But yet let's see what are writers thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Glad that you liked it!!
