Priceless

*Daniel’s pov* I tried and tried to find something worthwhile in Rose’s cabin. I didn’t find anything that seemed out of work. I don’t know if I could ever call her Aubrey. She will always be Rose for me. Rose. Delicate, gentle, and strong. I needed to know what secrets she was hiding that was troubling her. I would not think twice before taking all those horrible things away from her at any cost and hiding her safe from the entire world. She deserves calm and peace. She deserves everything. Just as I get searching the last cupboard, the shrill ring of my phone alerts me. My stomach twists when I see it’s Sophie calling. I had this weird feeling nagging at me that I pushed down not so long ago. “Is everything okay?” are the words that drop out of my mouth just as I answer the call. “Dan- Daniel, um,” she takes a breath in before continuing, “um, I think you should come here-” I end the call before she says anything more. This can’t be good. The familiar feeling of p

I'm Funny

The moon was shining around the crest and the stars were glowing beautifully as the night grew. If they were not in the situation they were in, it must’ve sounded like a romantic night. Daniel was far more worried about Rose than what he showed. Though, if he was being honest, he had asked her about a million times if she was alright and she had stopped answering after the third time. “Can you please say something different? Like distract me from the pain instead of reminding me about it every three seconds!” groaned Rose just as Daniel had started to ask her if she was alright again. “Umm, what do I tell you?” Daniel asked being confused about what to talk about at the moment. “Anything! Just- ugh… tell me any random thing…” “Oh, I’ll tell you a joke. So why is the nose in the middle of our face?” he asked as he looked in the back mirror trying to see her reaction. “I- um- I don’t know. Why?” she asked curiously. “Well, it’s the scenter, ” Daniel said while laughing at

The serious joker

Have you ever been in a situation where you just wanted to do something but just couldn’t think of what to do? Daniel was in the same situation, just a little different. He knew that he was supposed to place ice-packs around the injured area or do something that he couldn’t recall, but right now his brain had suddenly stopped working. ‘Great job, Daniel’ he thought sarcastically. He felt like being in an exam hall where suddenly you forget all that you had thought you knew by heart. Huh, at least he was never confused about 2+2 being 4 as Polly did, but that was a completely different story. It was then that he remembered Potato. He hurried over to Rose who was all of a sudden too calm. Then he saw that she was on a phone call talking to someone with a straight face. This made him wonder how many times she must’ve been in pain while talking over the phone with him but pretended she was not… She mumbled something like, “ T he stories of C hocolates of London A re actually about I

Stars are fascinating

' Beautiful’ is such a sweet word. Say it to a friend, a lover or even inanimate objects and still the meaning never ceases to fade. And now that Daniel had told the same to Rose, he meant it really, he felt as if that word was not enough for her. If only had he read the books that he was supposed to read when he was young, They were now walking towards their car after a long walk. They had a complete conversation on totally random topics starting from pineapples over pizzas and now they were talking about constellations. It is really amazing how you might be talking completely horrendous things with a certain person and still, it seems interesting. So was the case with Daniel, he was never that interested in the stars and all but now the constellations seemed the most fascinating things in the world, well out of the world but you get the idea. “…it’s called as Orion,” she said moving her fingers along some stars as if joining them with some imaginary lines. “Ugh,” cried Dan

Carnivals

Carnivals. Daniel hated them with a passion. Not that they weren’t fun, but he felt that they were completely overrated. He just couldn’t imagine why putting their lives in danger by sitting in the rides was so loved by all people. But right now he was driving him and rose to a Carnival. He couldn’t gather the courage to tell Rose when she looked so excited to lighten his mood. Honestly, if he were a poet he would’ve written a poem on how happy she looked. But considering his vocabulary, ‘beautiful’ was the word he settled on. She didn’t talk much during the car ride. They both actually enjoyed the comfortable silence between them. But he saw the way her eyes were practically glowing with happiness. He had never seen her so happy. He remembered the way she held her eyes low in the morning and she never kept her eyes low. When they reached there she let out a little squeak. Not like the ones they showed girls doing in the movies, which truth be told look so fake, but her squeak

The sunray through the dark clouds

The next few days were a bit gloomy. Like the days when there isn’t rain but the dark clouds have covered the sun and the pretty blue sky has lost its colour. Daniel had taken a day off after getting the news, mostly because he had lost the energy for another day filled with human interactions. At the end of the week, it was Vic’s funeral. Apparently when Vic’s contacts were tried to open his phone’s memory card got erased by itself, so no information was gathered from it. After a lot of convincing to Gerald about the funeral, Gerald had agreed for it to be sponsored by the office. Daniel didn’t want to be present at the event where he had to publically admit that Vic was no longer present in the world he existed in. All the good times, such as when Vic gifted Daniel the brown cap, that Daniel actually never wore, from where he had visited, or the cake fights that happened every time they decided to go to have breakfast together (the cake was not included in the breakfast but the
